Located only 1/4 mile from the Dunlap School, this rustic cabin home is one of the few surviving witnesses of the growth and development of the Dunlap community. Although the exterior has some rough edges, the interior exhibits the same rustic charm that it had when originally built.

This fully fenced 1 acre property is at the intersection of Dunlap and Millwood Roads. It's a beautiful piece of property... nearly level and highly useable terrain with some memorable and stately old oaks providing a canopy of shade for the home. The home is sided with either oak or redwood(we're not sure but it is the original siding and in remarkably good condition for an 86 year old). That's not to say it doesn't need work, it does. Let's just call it a "fixer" with some pretty good bones.

The interior is where things get interesting. The original hardwood floors are still there... some have been covered, but they are still in place. The walls and ceilings are all original tongue and groove knotty pine and you will absolutely love the hand carved room and window wood accents throughout. Windows are still the original sash windows and the doors are all handmade to match the walls and ceiling. For a small home it is surprisingly spacious. The two bedrooms are separated by the bathroom which is accessed by both bedrooms via a common hall that also provides access to the wardrobes... very unique. That leaves a lot of space for the wide open living room and country style kitchen. The living room has a neat old freestanding wood stove. Additional heat is from propane wall heaters. The home has a covered front porch and a rear service porch. Washer and dryer facilities were moved from the service porch to the detached garage structure in back. A large freestanding carport and patio at the rear of the home provides both parking and useable shade and storage area. The front of the home has stately oaks and a beautiful stone wall with stone pillars framing the entrance to the stone entry walk. The garage structure is a combination of a separate utility room, garage w/ sliding door and finished playroom or workroom. Very functional space but it does need work.

How about the negatives? Well, it is a piece of history but that 86 year old body definitely needs some work. The metal garage roof needs repair in places and there are spots of water damage in some of the wood framing where the roof has been leaking. The best solution would be a new metal roof. The home's roof is ok and water tight, but the fascia and eaves need some work. Most of the siding is sound but the paint is pretty drab... either new paint or sandblast to the original wood and stain might be the way to go. The inside is all operational but a little dressing up might be in order. The kitchen floor has linoleum and the living room has fairly new wood laminate flooring(both over the original hardwood floors). Going back and refinishing that original wood would really be the ticket. Plumbing and electrical are basically ok but may need some attention in places. The home is currently occupied by a tenant.

As a small 2br1ba, this home isn't for everybody. But, for someone wanting a home that has real character and the time to put in some elbow grease to make it shine, this could be just too good to pass up. For anyone looking to go down in both price & size, but have a property that they can take real pride in, this one deserves a real look. You have a terrific location, an awesome piece of land that is big enough for anything you might want to do(garden, animals, shop, etc.), and a home that just exudes character. The question is... do you have the insight to see just what a great property this is?

The property is tenanted, so advance appointments will be required. The seller is willing to consider carrying paper with 50% down. Don't let this piece of Dunlap history get by you... it really is something special.
