convenience store has liquor store, fast food kitchen, coffee tables, gas & diesel pumps, propane sales, and cold storage
There's not much fast food in Crawford, so the Desperado has installed a fast food kitchen to provide items such as fried chicken, jalapeo poppers, hot dogs, and french fries. There is a liquor store (the only one in town) with a separate register; coffee service with tables for the faithful early-morning crowd; propane sales; two gasoline and diesel bays; and an outside meat locker for cold storage. It comes in handy during the summer, when extra storage is needed for the many cases of beer they keep on hand for the thirsty crowd on the reservoir, which is literally right next door. The reservoir is 344 acres and offers waterskiing and fishing for trout, perch, crappie, and pike, as well as waterskiing, swimming, and over 60 campsites that are almost always booked during the summer.
Crawford is a recreation paradise--hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, skiing, horseback riding, hiking
Crawford is in the center of some of the best of Colorado's recreation. Skiing, fly-fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, hiking, climbing, and horseback riding are all here in abundance, and much more. The three famous ski resorts of Aspen, Crested Butte, and Telluride are all two hours away. World-class snowmobiling can be found on the Grand Mesa just to the north side of the valley. Crawford is known for its excellent big-game hunting for elk, mule deer, bear, and mountain lion. The West Elks Wilderness is just a few miles to the east of the store, offering hundreds of thousands of acres of public lands for riding, hiking, hunting, fishing, and exploring. The Black Canyon of the Gunnison is only a few miles south of the store, where anglers experience truly world-class fly-fishing.
Crawford is a small-town paradise, with excellent schools and a quiet country lifestyle
Crawford is the kind of town where a traffic jam means that a local rancher is driving his cattle through the middle of town and you have to wait for the herd to pass. It is surrounded by large ranches and vast expanses of public lands. The nearest stoplights are 31 miles to the west; 75 miles to the northeast; and 81 miles to the southeast. Hunting season is a big deal in Crawford, and truckers may stop with a load of 20 tons of hay that is being sent to a horse farm in Florida or California. If you're looking for big box stores and lots of action, this is not the place. If you're seeking great cash flow and a quiet lifestyle, you're in the right spot.
