Green Building Strategies Eco Friendly Planning & Building
Source: Log Home Living, by Kenya McCullum

Before you dismiss the idea of building a green home as an impractical fantasy created by tree huggers, you may be pleasantly surprised to find out that, whether you’re building a new home or renovating an existing one, green building doesn’t have to be difficult. And the direct benefits of opting for eco-friendly alternatives throughout the building process—high efficiency, more comfortable and healthier spaces—make it a no-brainer. Not to mention the fact that you’ve already taken the first step toward green nirvana by choosing to build with logs.

“Wood is one of the greenest building materials around. It’s a renewable resource, so it’s not like cement or steel, which have a much more detrimental ecological footprint,” says veteran forester Darrell Errico. “Making wood products doesn’t require a lot of energy—not like steel or concrete, which require tremendous amount of energy, not just for extraction, but for manufacturing the final product.”

So despite the lyrical lament of Kermit the Frog, it really is easy being green. Click on any tip below to find out how:
Orient home around the sun Reduce ecological footprint Sustainable building materials

Reduce construction waste Landscape with thought Conserve water

Seal your home Indoor climate control Indoor air quality

Energy-star approved   Long term planning
