First Solar to pay Mesa $9.8 mil for land

First Solar Inc. of Tempe is buying about 635 acres of land owned by Mesa in Pinal County, where the company plans to build an electrical-generating station for Salt River Project. August 26, 2011 The purchase price is about $9.8 million, or $15,433 per acre. The development comes a week after First Solar dedicated its large solar-panel manufacturing plant in southeast Mesa, which is to begin production by mid-2012 with 600 employees. Total employment there could eventually reach 4,800.
