Rancher places 472 acres into conservation easement

A new conservation easement has "permanently protected" 472 acres of a working cattle ranch in Chaffee County, according to a ranch owner and affiliated land trust officials. December 15, 2010 Nearly half of Rafter 26 Ranch at the base of Mount Princeton, went into the easement in November, ending a year and a half of negotiations. The ranch owner, who asked to remain anonymous to protect family members and other ranchers from possible harassment, worked with Colorado Cattlemen's Agricultural Land Trust to negotiate terms beneficial to interests of both parties.
