Irvine eyes selling land to fund Great Park

Officials in Irvine are debating the idea of selling public land to help pay for development of the Orange County Great Park, the Register has learned. October 13, 2011 The move comes as questions linger about the park's financial health and involves a vacant 20-acre plot near the intersection of Alton and Barranca parkways. That land was transferred to Irvine after the El Toro military base was sold in 2005. "Right now we're simply evaluating market conditions," said Mike Ellzey, Great Park chief executive.
