Agritourism & Heritage Tourism Workshop (complete article from source)

Have you considered developing or enhancing an Agritourism or heritage tourism enterprise along with your existing farm or ranch operation? If so, mark Feb. 22 on your calendar.
“This workshop will provide tools and resources for you to begin a planning process to create a successful Agritourism or heritage tourism enterprise,” states Dennis Kaan from Colorado State University Extension Service.
According to workshop organizers, “Agritourism can be defined simply as inviting the public onto a farm or ranch to participate in various activities and enjoy an agricultural experience. It can also be defined as an activity, enterprise or business that combines primary elements and characteristics of agriculture and tourism and provides an experience for visitors that stimulates economic activity and impacts, both for farm and community income. By either definition, an Agritourism enterprise will require time, skills and resources all operators will need to actively manage.”
Speakers will present information on engaging your community, assessing your resource base, legal implications and marketing your operation. Among the speakers are Sharon Glidden from Tiger Mountain Ranch in Oklahoma, Duke Phillips of Chico Basin Ranch in Colorado and Gary May of May Farms in Bennett, as well as business management professionals and specialists from Morgan Community College Small Business Development Center, Northeast Colorado Resource Conservation and Development, the Colorado Department of Agriculture and Colorado State University.
The workshop will be held Feb. 22, 2008, at the Washington County Events Center in Akron, Colo.. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with the program kicking off at 9:45. There will be a $25 registration fee to attend the program.
