More than 120 acres has been added to the Tillinghast Pond Management Area, the Nature Conservancy announced Tuesday. The addition expands the area to 1,911 acres, and also advances the conservancy's goal of preserving 132,000 acres in the 20-town Pawcatuck Borderlands area that straddles eastern Connecticut and western Rhode Island. The Tillinghast area has been jointly acquired over the past several years through a partnership of the conservancy, the state and the town of West Greenwich. The latest acquisition will increase the protection of the Wood River and adjacent woodlands, and provide public access to these areas, the conservancy said in a news release. February 03, 2011
