Gifted parcel is sold for $1 million

Taxpayer-owned land in Milford that DelDOT officials claimed was worthless when they gave it to a developer five years ago has sold for nearly $1 million. Part of the 2.2-acre DelDOT parcel, deeded to developer Dennis E. Silicato for $1 in 2006, also was used to create a new intersection with southbound Del. 1 near Milford, a limited-access highway and the state's busiest road to the beach. DelDOT's decision to grant permission for that freeway entrance and exit greatly increased the value of the adjacent land, experts say.
