Water dstrict protects another 1100 acres in Volusia Conservation Corridor

In a surprise move, the St. Johns River Water Management District board voted unanimously Tuesday to protect another 1,107 acres of land in the Volusia Conservation Corridor. September 14, 2011 The board will partner with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to buy development rights for the Lukas Ranch in Osteen. The purchase will conserve 1,107 acres, including 806 acres of uplands and 301 acres of wetlands. The total cost of the project is $1.5 million, an average of $1,312 an acre.
