The county's greenspace holdings now top 1,500 acres with a new acquisition of land in northwest Cherokee.

The county Board of Commissioners on Tuesday night approved the purchase of 541 acres on Yellow Creek Road near the Etowah River.

The $1.1 million cost will be paid using park bond revenues. The land will be used as greenspace and will have a conservation easement from the Mountain Conservation Trust.
