MACON, GA (July 16, 2007) - Governor Sonny Perdue will speak about the importance of land conservation at an upcoming conference sponsored by the Georgia Forestry Commission. Perdue will address a luncheon meeting at the 2007 GROWS (Georgia Recognizes Our Woodland Stewards) Landowner Conference at Callaway Gardens, on Friday, August 3, at 11:45 a.m. The conference, which takes place August 2-4, will focus on Conserving the Working Forest Landscape.

“Governor Perdue has been an important champion of land conservation in Georgia,” said Robert Farris, Interim Director of the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC). “He created the Land Conservation Council in 2005 and promoted passage of the state conservation tax credit in 2006. Georgia’s landscapes are changing rapidly, and Governor Perdue clearly understands the value of Georgia’s working forests. We are delighted he will be joining us for this important meeting,” Farris said.

The GFC GROWS Conference draws landowners from throughout the state who are interested in the latest information on forest and wildlife management. This year’s conference features several presentations and breakout sessions covering current issues ranging from conservation tax credits, estate planning, and cost-share opportunities to new forest products, bioenergy, and carbon sequestration.
