Plan would preserve 344 acres of Hobart wetlands

The city received a $25,000 Lake Michigan Coastal Grant, which will be used to create a comprehensive plan for 344 acres of vacant wetland areas on the city’s west side, City Planner A.J. Bytnar said Thursday. September 09, 2011 Bytnar said the various parcels of land are mostly north of 61st Avenue and Liverpool Road, stretching almost to Old Ridge Road. He said they encompass Robinson Lake, farmland in that area, and possibly the St. Sava property. The parcels are owned by various departments and agencies, are mostly wetland and not conducive to development, he said.
