Earlier this year, the council approved $910,000 in borrowing to buy the extensive property, most of which lies between Spring Street and the Mill River. A Task Force appointed by the city has recommended that that land, which totals about 180 acres, be divided between agricultural, conservation and recreational use. It became available recently when the two families that own the former farmland put it the parcels up for sale.
