CLINTON, Iowa — The Clinton County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing in Charlotte later this month on a proposal to sell nearly

200 acres of land that made up the former county farm.

The land once was part of a working farm that was operated by residents of the former Clinton County Home, board chairman Dennis Starling said. In recent years, the county has leased the land to farmers, but now the supervisors are ready to sell the land.

“We basically don’t have a need for that land any longer,” Starling said.

The land will be sold in three parcels, but the county will retain some of the land, including a cemetery.

During Monday’s board meeting, Supervisor Jill Davisson said she told Charlotte Mayor Marty Jahn that the supervisors would hold the public meeting on the proposal in Charlotte to give local residents a chance to comment on the proposed sale.

The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Charlotte Area Activities Center.

The board also discussed last week’s announcement that Community Care will close its Charlotte unit for persons with mental illness, or PMI, forcing 27 residents to find new facilities.

Becky Eskildsen, the county’s mental health coordinator, said only one of the

27 residents’ cases is being managed by Clinton County, so the closing will not have a significant impact on the county’s caseload.
