Marion Economic Development Company’s new industrial park, which will be among the first in the state connected to a trail system, has turned over 7.2 acres of land to solidify the adjacent Grant Wood Trail. The strip of land approximately 120 feet wide by 2,613 feet long is being donated to the Linn County Conservation Board for management as part of the trail system. It was part of the Chicago Milwaukee St. Paul and Pacific Railroad before it was abandoned and acquired by Bob Verhille and Wayne Blackford for future commercial development. Verhille and Blackford sold the land to MEDCO for the 184-acre Marion Enterprise Center between highway 151 and the Grant Wood Trail just west of the Marion Airport.
