Land sales net D.M. 1 million since 2005

Selling off surplus rights of way and unused public land has netted the city of Des Moines more than $1 million in the past five years. October 02, 2010 More than 90 percent of the purchased land, $932,359, has returned tax rolls, according to a city report. City Manager Rick Clark told City Council members this week it's difficult to evaluate the overall effect on taxable value because more than 90 percent of the land sales involved street and alley rights of way that aren't stand-alone parcels.
