Fort Benning sets sights on Stewart County land for expansion

Stewart County is the preferred alternative for Fort Benning to expand its training area by 82,800 acres, according to a draft environmental impact report. A summary report released Friday by the Army focused on Stewart County from a list of five acquisition alternatives that also considered Marion, Webster, Harris and Talbot counties in Georgia and Russell County in Alabama.
