State of Kentucky acquires 2500 acres of forestland in Union County

The state has acquired nearly 2,500 acres of mostly woodland in southwestern Union County that is intended for forest preservation, wildlife habitat and outdoor recreation including hunting — and hopes to complement that later by acquiring an additional 6,500 acres across the Tradewater River in Crittenden County. January 12, 2012 "I feel very confident, long term, that it will bring economic vitality to the region through tourism," state Sen. Dorsey Ridley said in a telephone interview from Frankfort, where he is participating in the 2012 General Assembly. "It will be a boon to our area," Ridley declared.
