The university is hoping the UL Board of Supervisors will approve selling the horse farm. The university says the piece of property is a huge liability. In recent months, we've reported on the large number of people who sneak onto the property at night.
Before he announced his resignation Friday morning, UL President Ray Authement told the Board of Supervisors the horse farm isn't being used and should be sold. The board must approve the sale. The proceeds will enable the university to buy property closer to the campus for expansion.
"It's a very valuable piece of property. I now have 4 solid offers for the property. If it sold, however, it would have to go out for bids," said Authement.
Potential buyers include a developer who wants to build upscale homes on the land and an individual who wants to buy the entire horse farm to build a single, private residence on it.
