The decision to suspend the program was made because of cutbacks in state funds that make the program viable.

The Carroll County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to stop accepting applications to the program during its meeting Thursday.

Commissioner Julia Walsh Gouge emphasized during the meeting that Critical Farms is only one of several tools the county uses to preserve agricultural land.
