Land trusts aim to preserve land

Ten years ago, when Vivian Mills found out a development was slated to surround the historic Dr. Samuel A. Mudd House in Charles County, she immediately made a list of ways to save the historic property. Topping that list was putting the nearly 200 acres under a conservation easement through a land trust organization. “It isn't something that everybody knows about,” said Mills, president of the Conservancy for Charles County.
