Conte Fish and Wildlife Refuge gains acreage from Chesterfield land sale

The 31,000-acre Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge just got a little bigger. About 80 acres bigger, to be precise, due to the sale of a Chesterfield parcel bordering Dead Branch Brook to the refuge, which was established in 1997 to protect the four-state, 7.2-million-acre Connecticut River Watershed. The Chesterfield addition follows the recent transfer of 96 acres in Connecticut to the sprawling refuge managed by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. November 29, 2011
