Gene Chague Great day for land protection in the state

Recently, state and local officials joined conservation partners to celebrate the opening of the Flat Brook Wildlife Management Area, a new conservation area they claim will protect wildlife habitat and provide numerous recreational opportunities. October 30, 2011 "The dedication of this wildlife management area gives Massachusetts residents and visitors access to a new venue for great outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting, canoeing and bird watching," Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) Secretary Richard K. Sullivan Jr. said. "It is yet another example of the Patrick-Murray Administration's commitment to land conservation." The Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game and its Division of Fisheries and Wildlife acquired the 273-acre parcel of land in June for $1.1 million. At the same time, it acquired a separate seventeen acres to augment the nearby Maple Hill WMA, which now encompasses 220 acres.
