Wayland officials change stance for Lee Farm plan
Source: Boston.com, by Bret Leifer
February 21, 2008

I read with interest the Globe West article on Feb. 14 about Wayland's town center project ("Lawsuits hit plan on traffic fears").

On Feb. 12, there was a meeting of the Planning Board on a proposal that the Lee Farm property in Wayland be turned into a small commercial strip mall. The same town officials who are in favor of the proposed new town center at routes 20 and 27 are against this Lee Farm proposal. They say they want to protect the rural character of Wayland, even though this property is zoned commercial on Route 20, and would generate more revenue. Revenue is one of the main reasons these officials say they are in favor of the town center project. Some of these officials live nearer to the Lee property.

Wayland lost its rural character long ago. When I moved to Wayland in 1977, there were three working farms in town. Those days are gone forever. Claims that Wayland has any remaining rural character at all will be destroyed with the construction of the new town center. This does not even take into consideration the future madness of increased traffic jams.
