Weymouth might buy 24 acres for preservation

Decades of development have left Weymouth with few places to add open spaces where residents are free to stroll, walk through the woods and enjoy the outdoors. June 09, 2011 Now the town has a chance to buy 24 acres of land with some of the best views of the Boston skyline, the harbor and, on a clear day, Cape Ann. Mayor Sue Kay said the owners of the property off Commercial Street in Weymouth Heights have accepted the town’s offer to buy the land for $1.9 million using Community Preservation Act money. Now it’s up to the town council to OK the purchase or let it go on the open market.
