CADILLAC - The Cadillac City Council plans to hold a public hearing during its Monday, Nov. 16, meeting to consider adopting an ordinance allowing for the sale of city-owned land at James and south Carmel streets.
The council on Monday voted 4-0 to introduce the ordinance amending the city code to allow for the sale. Council member Tom Dyer was absent from the meeting.
The city last month requested bids for the 49-foot by 128-foot parcel at 733 James St. The sole bidder is Life Skills Psychological Services, which is located across from the property at 805 S. Carmel St. It is offering to buy the parcel for $3,000.
Life Skills plans to convert the land into an employee parking lot in order to free up spaces in its existing lot for clients, the bid document states.
Should the council approve the sale next month, Life Skills will have to approach the city’s Planning Commission about rezoning the property, said interim City Manager Precia Garland. Free-standing commercial parking lots are not allowed under the property’s current residential zoning designation.
