GLADWIN - A Gladwin County couple has preserved 190 acres on the Cedar River.
Norman and Patricia Engel have signed a conservation easement with The Little Forks Conservancy in Midland to protect 190 acres of their 200-acre farm, located in Sage Township, northwest of Gladwin.
The voluntary easement protects about 3,500 feet of the West Branch of the Cedar River, conservancy officials said in a news release.
The easement was completed through the conservancy's Cedar River Project, funded by a grant from the state's Clean Michigan Initiative.
The goal of the project is to protect lands that benefit the water quality of the Cedar River Watershed.
The Little Forks Conservancy works with landowners to permanently protect land with natural and cultural resources.
The conservancy has helped private landowners protect more than 1,700 acres in mid-Michigan, including more than eight miles of waterways and shoreline, officials said.
