Kent County takes step toward accepting grant for farmland preservation

After nearly a year of discussion, a long-delayed Grand Rapids Community Foundation grant took a critical step Tuesday toward the pockets of Kent County’s controversial farmland preservation program. The county board’s finance committee on Tuesday recommended the full county commission next week accept a $77,000 grant from the foundation, which has been pending since February. The foundation then proposed granting the county $100,000 during each of three years, but county officials held off accepting the grant until its 2011 budget was set. January 18, 2011
