Midland County board rejects Sanford Lake land purchase offer

With a split 5-2 vote, Midland County's board of commissioners indirectly rejected a land purchase offer for 27 parcels of "bottom land" under Sanford Lake at the center of a dispute between Boyce Hydro LLC and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Commissioners did not directly reject the offer, opting instead to accept an Administration and Operations Committee recommendation to receive and file a letter from the Sanford Lake Preservation Association. The move to receive and file the letter, which offered $40,000 for the land, in effect kills the proposal by not bringing the issue to a board vote, but allows for the item to be brought back before the board in the future.
