Wayne County eyes land for next jail

Wayne County may buy 7.6 acres of downtown land now owned by Greektown Casino-Hotel for a new jail, officials confirmed Wednesday. Greektown said in a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing Monday that it's a 60-day due diligence period with Wayne County in a deal for the land. Greektown had planned to use that land for its permanent casino and hotel but ultimately didn't need it. The land -- bounded by I-375, Gratiot and St. Antoine -- is now a parking lot.
