DNR buys acres in park

The Department of Natural Resources has purchased a 19-acre parcel of land within Split Rock Lighthouse State Park via its Division of Parks and Trails, filling a gap in park land on either side of Highway 61 near the rest stop just south of the entrance to the park. January 06, 2011 Parks and Trails has been actively pursuing the property the past 25 years and closed the transaction Dec. 23. The purchase was made possible by the diligent efforts of the Parks & Trails Council of Minnesota, the DNR said. Funding was provided by the Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund as recommended by the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources and capital bonding.
