Southaven buying land for future Arena parking

SOUTHAVEN - Southaven aldermen approved on Tuesday purchasing a tract of land in anticipation it later could become an additional parking lot for the city's multi-purpose arena.
Mayor Greg Davis said the city would issue a 20-year note for the $2.7 million piece of property along Hwy. 51 north of Goodman, with all but $30,000 of the monthly payment being covered by the WIN Job Center that leases a building on site.
Ever-increasing proceeds from The Arena at Southaven, located on adjoining property to the east, would make up the difference, he said.
Davis added that the purchase does not require taxpayer dollars.
