Bozeman plans to pass on an acre of land for sale on Main Street between Lindley Park and the public library.

“We don’t have the resources,” City Commissioner Jeff Rupp said during the commission’s regular meeting Monday.

City Manager Chris Kukulski proposed buying the land to add to the park acreage. People probably think that the land is part of the park anyway, he said.

However, the city has only $84,000 in its park cash-in-lieu fund, money earmarked for parks that developers have paid the city instead of building new parks.

The city drained its park cash-in-lieu fund when it bought two acres in Burke Park for $500,000 in May.

Swim Center will be closed for the weekend

The Bozeman Swim Center, 1211 W. Main St., will be closed Friday through Sunday for the Montana state championship swim meet.

The pool will reopen with regular hours at 6 a.m. Monday, July 28.

Swim Center Passes will be accepted at Bogert Pool while the Swim Center is closed.

MSU program to offer EMT class

Montana State University's Extended University will offer a basic course for emergency medical technicians this fall.

The EMT Basic Course will be taught from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday from Sept. 2 through Dec. 11.

The course covers essential skills required of emergency medical technicians. It will prepare students for the state and national written and practical exams. Students who successfully pass the exams will be certified to perform life-saving skills as EMTs in a pre-hospital setting.

Tuition for the course is $700 for non-credit students. This course can also be taken for academic credit at an additional charge of $190.

John Alston, EMT-B, will teach the class. Those who are interested in attending must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, and must not have been convicted of certain felony charges. Enrollment is limited and students who apply must also interview with the course instructor.

The application deadline is Aug. 9. Interviews will be held Aug. 16
