KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) The Flathead Land Trust has announced a $1.9 million agreement to buy 160 acres of farmland adjacent to the federal Waterfowl Production Area on the north shore of Flathead Lake.
The wetlands and farmland combine to provide habitat for
pheasants, geese, ducks, swans, deer and other wildlife.
The purchase from landowners Doug and Donna Miller includes plans for a state park, with a small campground, on the site.
Dave Landstrom, regional parks manager for
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, said the project will be funded with $1.8 million from the state's Access Montana program along with private contributions.
Landstrom says the purchase must still undergo a public review process and be approved by the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commission and the state Land Board.
