GRAND ISLAND, Neb. - The Grand Island Area Economic Development Corp. has purchased 1,335 acres at the former Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant west of Grand Island for an industrial park.
The EDC paid $2,100 an acre, or $2.8 million, for the land, which will become the Cornhusker Industrial Park.
"It's exciting," EDC President Marlan Ferguson said Tuesday. "It's somewhat of a historic day for economic development in Hall County."
The EDC had submitted a proposal in January to buy the land. The 15-page proposal outlined future use of the land as an industrial park, which could include a foreign-trade zone.
