Town conserves 15 acres

A public hearing on a proposal to put approximately 15 acres of land under a conservation easement turned into a philosophical debate among selectmen Monday night. In the end they voted 3-2 to move ahead with the project.

At issue was the proposed conservation easement on the former Sullos farm on Blake Road, purchased in September 2010 by longtime residents Joe and Cheryl Denoncour. The Denoncours are seeking an easement on 15 of the 17 acres. Two selectmen, Chairman Karen Sott-Falcone and Dianne Gilbert, wanted to see a final number before they voted, and also expressed doubt that money for easement purchases should come from town funds.
