Two more tracts set to increase Monadnocks reach

Charles Royce enjoys his land on Mount Monadnock. The former state park manager for the mountain harvests timber for his firewood there, hunts, hikes and watches beavers busily make dams in the small pond that sits on the property. Now, future generations will be able to enjoy it, too. By the end of the year Royce’s 52 acres on the mountain in Jaffrey, which he and his wife Ann acquired from her family 25 years ago, will be permanently protected from development with a conservation easement. Protection of two other nearby parcels of land — totaling 335 acres and owned by the Stowell family — makes this the largest conservation project on the mountain in nearly 100 years.
