County to protect land in flight path of Joint Base

About $4.5 million would be spent in Jackson under a proposal by the Ocean County Board of Freeholders to keep 1,800 acres in the flight path of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst out of the hands of developers. July 13, 2011 Freeholder John C. Bartlett Jr. announced the plan, in which open space funds are to be used, during the board’s agenda meeting Wednesday. An initial vote on the purchase is scheduled for next week. About $3.4 million would come from the county’s open space tax fund and $1.1 million would come from the Pinelands Conservation Fund.
