Freehold Township works with state county to preserve 16 acres of farmland

Sixteen acres of farmland along Route 537 could be preserved under a shared purchase of development rights by the township, county, and state.

In an agreement awaiting state approval, the Olbis Farm, a tract of farmland that borders Route 537 and Gravel Hill Road, will sell its development rights for $928,000 to the three governing groups. It is the last piece of a block-long stretch of preserved farmland along the county road, including the 139-acre Clayton Farm, and the 37-acre Virag-Non Farm, which were preserved in 2008.
