County Buys 26 Acre Lack Property in North Haven

Suffolk County will acquire 26 acres of open space in North Haven under a bill County Executive Steve Levy signed this week. The $3.7 million purchase of Andrew Lack’s woodland and tidal wetlands will prevent an approved subdivision from ever being developed. The land will be preserved under the county’s new Drinking Water Protection Act, which is designed to protect water aquifers and surrounding lands from “future environmental degradation.” “To preserve 26 acres of property anywhere in Suffolk is growing more difficult by the day, which makes the preservation of the Lack Property that much more magnificent,” Levy said in a statement Wednesday.
