The Maidstone Arms Inn and Restaurant in East Hampton, which has long been a favorite stopover for celebrities visiting the East End, can be yours for $9.75 million. The 19-bedroom, six-suite inn is in a circa-1840 main house, and the property includes three cottages dating from the 1950s and a 78-seat restaurant, says listing agent Molly Ferrer of Sotheby's International Realty in Southampton.
The Maidstone's guest register reads like a red-carpet roll call, with names such as Meg Ryan, Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner, Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon. The Maidstone is owned by Coke Anne Wilcox, whose father, Clint Murchison Jr., founded the Dallas Cowboys football team. Wilcox recently submitted preliminary plans to the village's design review board to convert the property to condominiums, but "the property is still for sale as a restaurant and inn," Ferrer says.
JACKIE SLEPT HERE. Manhattanite Reed Krakoff, president and executive creative director of Coach Inc., has added another accessory to his real estate portfolio: He and his interior designer wife, Delphine, recently purchased a weekend home in East Hampton for $24 million. The Further Lane estate, better known as Lasata, was once owned by John Vernou Bouvier II, grandfather of former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy, who spent many summers there as a child.
The 6.4-acre property includes a six-bedroom stucco home, pool and formal gardens. Listing agent James Makrianes of Brown Harris Stevens says the sale closed Feb. 1.
MONTAUK RANCH. Saddle up and check out the Startop Ranch in Montauk, a 14.4-acre spread available for $13.5 million. Agent John D'Agostino of Martha Greene Real Estate says the property is "an equestrian's dream," and, because the ranch straddles county and state parkland, "you can ride out your front door onto trails all the way to the Montauk lighthouse."
Startop, once a thoroughbred farm, is now home to only a handful of boarded horses, D'Agostino says. The property includes a five-bedroom ranch house and several outbuildings, including a 5,000-square-foot main barn with 15 box stalls and a 6,000-square-foot riding arena.
Don't need all that space? D'Agostino says the house and 3.9 acres of the property can be purchased separately for $6 million.
The property is now listed co-exclusively with Joan Hegner of the Corcoran Group and Joel Spiegel of Brown Harris Stevens.
