Town purchases 30 acres of open space in Yaphank

Brookhaven Town Supervisor Mark Lesko announced Friday the town has closed on a 30-acre property in Yaphank for nearly $4.2 million in an effort to protect the Carmans River through land preservation. Local elected officials, environmentalists and civic leaders gathered near the property, which is located between Southaven County Park and a 23-acre lot, applauding the preservation effort to protect the town’s longest river.
