Additional Conservation Reserve Program acres to support habitat restoration

The USDA has approved the reallocation of 153,972 acres available through the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) initiative entitled State Acres for Wildlife Enhancement (SAFE), to support conservation and restoration of important habitat for lesser prairie chickens, sage and sharp-tailed grouse, and other grassland, sage or prairie-dependent species. SAFE projects are located in Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Indiana, Montana, Nebraska, Tennessee and Texas.

“USDA is reallocating available SAFE acres in order to meet habitat goals for the lesser prairie chicken, sage and sharp-tailed grouse, and other priority species of concern," Said Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack. “Through our conservation programs, USDA is committed to restoring habitat for wildlife and preserving our natural resources and outdoor traditions for future generations to enjoy.”

FSA Announces Changes to Managed Haying on CRP Acreage

The USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) has implemented a Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) policy change to allow producers to utilize harvested hay from CRP acres expiring this fall when those acres are being prepared for fall seeded crops.

$53 Million in Grants to Support Habitat Acquisition and Conservation Planning for Endangered Species

Washington, D.C. - infoZine - Secretary of the Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced more than $53 million in grants to 17 states to support conservation planning and acquisition of vital habitat for threatened and endangered fish, wildlife, and plants.

The grants, awarded through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s (Service) Cooperative Endangered Species Conservation Fund (CESCF), will benefit numerous imperiled species ranging from the Peninsular bighorn sheep to the Karner blue butterfly.

RECOVERY FUNDS SATELLITE BROADBAND TO RURAL AREAS

Residents and businesses in geographic areas not served by high-speed Internet providers may qualify for a special Recovery funded program to bring them satellite broadband access at a reduced price.
