Agriculture Commissioner
Roger Johnson has extended until Jan. 20 the deadline for written comments on a proposed land purchase in
Kidder County by
Ducks Unlimited.
The Natural Areas Acquisition Advisory Committee is to meet Jan.
21 to make a recommendation to Gov.
John Hoeven, who has the final say on whether the land deal can proceed.
Ducks Unlimited wants to buy 598 acres of Kidder County land owned by Judith Hetleved of Bismarck. The property includes idled grassland, pasture, wetlands and a 5-acre site with buildings.
Ducks Unlimited says the land would be used for both agriculture and wildlife production, and possibly hunting. The group says it would pay all taxes on the property. The Kidder County Commission is against the land deal.
