Number of North Dakota Farms Dropping

The number of farms and ranches in North Dakota is dropping, and the average farm is getting bigger. The Agriculture Department estimated 30,100 farms and ranches in the state in 2007. That`s down 200 from 2006. It was the lowest level since record-keeping began in 1910. Total farmland was unchanged at 39.4 million acres. Average farm size went up last year by nine acres to 1,309 acres. It was the first increase in average farm size in four years.
