55 acres near Gott Fen acquired

About 55 acres east of the existing Gott Fen State Nature Preserve were officially purchased June 16 for conservation, said Dave Vasarhelyi of the Trust for Public Land. The $600,000 purchase was made by the TPL, a national conservation organization, after the city voted to acquire the land last fall. It will more than double protected fen and wetlands in the watershed, Vasarhelyi said. The property will be owned and maintained by the city. It includes a half-mile of Tinkers Creek, which also borders the existing 44-acre Gott Fen State Nature Preserve to the west. The purchase was made from Commercial Properties, Inc. of Northfield, a developer which previously owned the property, Vasarhelyi said.
