CATOOSA, Okla. (AP) - The Cherokee Nation is donating more than $300,000 to 117 rural fire departments in Oklahoma.
Principal Chief Chad Smith will present the money to the departments Tuesday during a ceremony at the Cherokee Casino Resort Golf Clubhouse in Catoosa.
The departments are scattered in the Cherokee's jurisdictional boundaries in northeastern Oklahoma and will use the money to buy equipment and to maintain their facilities.
