Port of Portlands purchase of LSI site promises to boost Gresham

There it sat, 305 acres of flat land, surrounded by good roads, serviced by large water pipes and its own electrical substation -- the last, big, ready-to-go industrially zoned plot in the Portland area. But instead of being home to a variety of high-tech businesses and jobs, most of it is leased to a farmer, who grows shrubs and wheat. Envisioned in the 1990s as a huge semiconductor manufacturing complex, only 83 acres of the property are being used to make chips, first by LSI Logic and since 2006 by ON Semiconductor.
