State Land Board to Sell 9 C. Oregon Parcels

The State Land Board voted Tuesday to sell nine state-owned parcels in Central Oregon, totaling about 500 acres, part of holdings across Oregon that the state maintains to raise money for schools. The board, made up of Oregon's governor, secretary of state and treasurer, also adopted a new Central Oregon Area Management Plan, its periodic review of what lands to sell, keep or change the uses of on the High Desert. According to a staff report, the properties recommended for sale next spring were chosen for a variety of reasons. One is that they need no land use action for their "highest and best use" and value. Most are 40 to 80 acres, located in remote areas, and have limited capacity to generate revenue through leases for the state Common School Fund. October 11, 2011
